Safety Protocol

How GaleraMatch keeps Puerto Galera a small, verified circle — from who gets in, to how people meet in person.

Safety is not a page of promises for us — it is enforced in the product. Every member is verification-gated, every first meetup is locked to daylight hours and Galera-vetted public venues, and risky behaviour is scored and escalated to human moderators. This page describes what actually runs.

Who gets in

  • You must be 18 or older — date of birth is checked at sign-up and under-18 accounts are blocked.
  • One account per person; your email is verified with a one-time code before the account is created.
  • You must accept the Community Guidelines and this Safety Protocol before your profile goes live.
  • Discovery is verified-only — unverified accounts cannot plan or confirm a first meetup.

Verification & how we check

Members can reach different verification levels, each backed by a real check:

Basic verified
A live selfie (liveness-checked) reviewed by a person.
Trusted local
For residents — selfie plus a local reference or on-ground check.
Verified traveler
For visitors — selfie plus a stay signal such as a hotel booking.
Premium human-verified
A deeper, human-reviewed identity check (ID document + on-ground where needed).
Business verified
For local hospitality and activity operators, reviewed as a business.

Verification requests — selfie, ID document, phone, hotel booking, local reference, on-ground manual, or business — are decided by a person, never auto-approved. On-ground and premium checks are handled by certified verifiers on scheduled shifts. You can only have one verification request pending at a time.

Trust score

  • Every member starts at a neutral trust score and earns more by completing verification.
  • A confirmed valid report lowers it; a ban sets it to zero. False reports never lower the reported person’s score.
  • Accounts below the trust threshold are hidden from discovery entirely.
  • Your trust score is private — it is never shown to other members and is only used for ranking and risk signals.

Meeting in person, safely

First meetups have guardrails built in and enforced by the app:

  • Both people must be at least Tier-1 verified before a first meetup can be planned or confirmed.
  • First meetups must be in a Galera-vetted public venue — private or unlisted spots are not allowed.
  • First meetups must be scheduled in daylight or early-evening windows.
  • A safety check-in is scheduled automatically a couple of hours after the meetup ends — we ask if you got home okay.
  • During a confirmed meetup you can send a silent panic alert that goes straight to our safety moderators.
  • You can share an emergency contact, and optionally share live location, for a specific meetup.
  • After a declined meetup there is a short cooldown before another can be proposed.

Messaging safety & off-app pressure

Every message is scored for risk as it is sent. We look for money and payment requests, pushes to move off-app (WhatsApp, Telegram, Viber, phone numbers), paid-service solicitation, and spammy repetition.

  • High-risk messages are flagged and queued for a human moderator to review — we do not rely on automation to make the final call.
  • Bios that contain money-transfer or off-app-contact language are rejected at onboarding.
  • Banned accounts cannot send messages at all.
  • Messaging is rate-limited and message length is capped to curb spam and abuse.

Reporting, blocking & moderation

You can report or block anyone. Reasons include spam, harassment, fake profile, scam attempt, underage concern, escort/solicitation, and off-app pressure. Blocking removes you from each other’s discovery in both directions.

Reports are reviewed by safety moderators against defined priority tiers with response-time targets — the most serious (credible threats, underage, coercion, severe scams) are acknowledged within minutes and actioned fastest. A valid report lowers trust or, when warranted, bans the account; false reports carry no penalty for the person reported.

No account is permanently banned by an automated signal alone. Bans and major decisions are made by a person and logged, and you can appeal within 14 days to a different moderator.

If something goes wrong

  • Use Report on any profile or conversation — add details, and block immediately if you want.
  • During a confirmed meetup, use the panic alert to reach our safety team silently.
  • If you believe a moderation decision was wrong, appeal within 14 days — a different moderator reviews it.
  • In an emergency, always contact local emergency services first.

This describes how the product works today and evolves as GaleraMatch grows. It does not replace local law or emergency services.
